Can online education replace traditional education ?

Can online education replace traditional education? This is a question that has been widely debated in recent years. Traditional education, with its classroom setting and face-to-face interaction, has long been the norm. However, with the rise of technology and the internet, online education has gained popularity as an alternative. Online platforms such as Atomic Learning offer innovative learning opportunities that can be accessed anytime, anywhere. While some argue that online education provides flexibility and accessibility, others believe that it lacks the personal interaction and hands-on experience that traditional education offers. Ultimately, the effectiveness of online education in replacing traditional education remains a topic of ongoing discussion.

The Evolution of the Education System

The classified training model is divided into 4 stages. The first education model emerged in the Stone Age, that is, by imitating the mother and father and practicing what they did. The second stage of education was based on the master-apprentice relationship system of different professions in the Middle Ages.

After Industrial Revolution and 4th Phase Education System

The third stage emerges when countries decide to speak a common language with people after taking in a lot of immigrants, and it is a production line that keeps up with the times, obeys commands, knows a little basic literacy, and can do routine work. As students began to reject this system, which is based on diminishing creativity, the system we call the 4th generation education model emerged. People want to return to their essence, and they aim to do this by turning to the best individual learning model. For this reason, I would like to express my respect once again to Professor Erhan Erkut, who says that the system is helpless and, that education is yours. At the same time, I try to educate myself personally in every minute I breathe in my daily life. I want to point out once again that education can only be within the person himself, rather than being limited to methodologies.

Will the System Evolve or Be Overthrown?

Will education evolve or collapse? For this, we can give an example of the Flipped Learning System, which was used by a limited number of lecturers and students years ago. In the Flipped Learning System, which emerged before the pandemic, students receive questions from academic students with the question and answer model while preparing on their phones or tablets in subways, buses, cafes, in order to access the content 10 minutes before the lessons. Therefore, emphasis is placed on conveying competence, not content. The philosophy of the emergence of platforms such as Coursera and edX has also taken its place in our lives as a learning model that aims to prevent distraction and keep the attention of individuals active during university classes.

Young People’s Preferences in Learning

Social and emotional tendencies of young people change their learning style. The comprehensive Sue Chatterton’s ‘How do Young People Think They Learn?
A Learning Theory Taxonomy Devised from Pupil Preferences’ article, education is examined in different categories: social and emotional, cognitive, experiential, structural, self-awareness, and behavioral. The social and emotional training models had the highest correlation rate in this research.

Why Do Young Students Prefer Game-Based Content?

When I researched this, concepts such as social interaction, flexible hours, and supportive research emerged. The most defining feature is the possibility of flexibility.

At the end of all this complexity

The old model of education can be boring with wooden desks. However, people learned good time management from the old education system. If we look at our elders who applied the old education model, it is a great advantage for them to be patient for a long time in the face of events, despite the limited technological opportunities. Young people today think innovatively and make decisions very quickly. This shows that future competition can be between impatient and patient people. Maybe the person should focus more on the education model he/she wants to benefit from. Let’s see what happens.

On this platform, we discuss the underlying philosophy behind education. Why do individuals refuse to behave ethically in daily life, and how do individuals build their own motives to educate themselves emotionally and analytically?
